Mike and Jenny had been Democrats living on a small farm. They watched their neighbors shockingly support Republican candidates. It was strange as their farm community had always been Democratic.

Like many of their neighbors, they depend upon SNAP for the kids’ food. They depended upon school programs for everything they could grab, all to better their children’s lives. They got their kids’ health insurance from Medicaid.

But their neighbors just kept saying, “No one is taking care of us. Trump says he will fix things on day one. We believe him!”

Jenny said to Mike one night, “Trump is saying he is going to fix things. I know you loved Bernie. Kamala Harris is actually talking about fixing things. Trump is just talking about who to blame and how he is going to punish them. How does this help us?”

Mike thought and said, “I know what you are saying. But Trump is going to lower prices for food. He is going to lower energy costs. He is going to punish the rich and the foreigners who have been gouging us for years. He is going to kill all the federal government programs we pay for. Our taxes are going to go down. He even might give us money like Joe Biden did.”

Jenny said, “Mike, you still got a student loan out. Biden paused it. Trump says he is going to make you pay it back.”

Mike laughed. “Pay it back with what? We barely make enough to eat. We can’t farm because I can’t afford to get the machinery fixed. All we can do is hold on. It will get better under Trump!”

Jenny frowned. “Trump is a sex offender. He is up on all these charges of fraud. His businesses all failed. He creeps me out with orange makeup and weird hair. They say he wears a diaper and smells terrible. This is a guy that has told 10,000’s of lies. You are going to trust our future to someone like this? How can you trust someone we would never trust to be in our home? How can we trust someone who parades these fake, Barbie-looking women around as directors, advisors, agency heads, and attorneys?”

Mike objected, “Trump said he will get the best of the best to run the country. How bad can it get?”
